Decentralised controller type SCM

- Compact, powerful and high performance

Equipped with one of our decentralised multi-axis servo controller type SCM, our drive systems are ideal for a wide range of different applications:

  • Handling and robotics solutions
  • pick and place applications in packaging or processing machines
  • autonomous, automated guided vehicles
  • Mobile construction vehicles or agricultural robots
  • automatic car park systems
  • and much more.

Especially in applications where compactness and compactness and power rating our drive systems with SCM decentralised controllers are the best choice. They impress with their high functional diversity and variability. DC-48 V technique included!

What does "system solution" mean in connection with SCM?

With a drive system, we don't just look at a single component, but at the optimized system solution for the customer. And we always focus on the specific application, taking into account the ambient conditions. In addition to classic system components such as drive electronics, cables and gearmotors in safety extra-low voltage, such a system solution also includes supplementary components:

  • Energy transfer and energy management
  • safety technology
  • Software and visualisation solutions
  • Startup and services
  • control technology
  • Other comprehensive services

Where is the decentralised controller type SCM used?

Our SCM solutions can be used in a wide range of industries, where they impress with their space-saving, compact design and power rating. Typical applications include

  • Automation solutions for loading and unloading production and processing machines (metal, plastic, wood, etc.)
  • Product and carrier transport to and through packaging and food processing machines
  • Handling and robotic solutions
  • Line-guided or freely navigating driverless transport systems
  • Machine modules for intralogistics
  • Battery-powered construction vehicles and construction machinery
  • Auxiliary power units for municipal, fire service, airport and cleaning vehicles
  • special solutions in the sheet metal and steel sector, e.g. pigging applications
  • Mobile off-highway applications
  • Automatic car park systems

How does an SCM controller work in mobile applications?

Optimised in terms of installation space, power rating, robustness and connection technology, the decentralised SCM controllers are are perfectly tailored to move clear or rail-guided mobile applications. They can be supplied with energy via various voltage sources, such as batteries, inductive energy supply, double-layer capacitors and sliding contacts. They can be position, rotational speed or torque-controlled and thus drive the servomotors. and thus drive the servomotors. They are usually controlled via a higher-level fieldbus system or autonomously from a MOVI-C® CONTROLLER from SEW-EURODRIVE.

How do you set up a mobile system with DC-48 V technique?

The voltage supply is provided by batteries, contactless energy supply, charging/sliding contacts or double-layer capacitors. The safety extra-low voltage technique (DC-48 V technique) is included in our decentralised controllers of type SCM. Simple position specifications as well as complex motion kinematics are calculated in the open-loop control system and transmitted via our fast and deterministic EtherCAT® motion bus.® to the SCM controllers. The movement is freely navigated or line-guided with directly integrated sensor technology (e.g. tracking sensor or laser scanner).

What are the advantages of SCM controllers for mobile systems?

Many of the functions required for mobile applications are already integrated in the decentralised SCM controller:

  • DC 24 V power supply
  • Reading of a distance encoder
  • Many digital inputs/outputs and several analogue inputs
  • Monitoring of energy storage devices

The solution also offers numerous other advantages in mobile applications:

  • Small installation space: Scalable multi-axis concept in DC-48 V technique in an extremely compact mounting position
  • High performance: extremely short cycle times enable high dynamics and large load inertia ratios
  • convincing power rating: High maximum and continuous currents for fast acceleration processes and short cycle times in the application
  • Numerous integrated inputs/outputs: including control of holding and working brakes
  • Various power supply solutions: high variability through the use of accumulators, sliding contacts, MOVITRANS® contactless energy transfer system and MOVI-DPS® energy storage system
  • perfect coordination: multi-axis and also kinematically complex movements with the help of the MOVI-C® CONTROLLER easy to realise
  • simple service: Convenient serviceability thanks to decentralised technique, simple pluggability and single-cable solution
  • DC 24 V voltage supply for periphery: Integrated DC 24 V power supply for the supply of external electronics components

What are the features of an SCM controller?

Our decentralised controllers of type SCM impress with their outstanding features. The most important features include

  • Protective extra-low voltage between DC 20 V and DC 60 V
  • High-performance current, rotational speed and position control
  • integrated DC 24 V supply for entire mobile units
  • pluggable interfaces
  • IP20 design: 2 axes scalable to 4, 6, 8 axes
  • Standardised motor encoder protocol EnDat 2.2 and resolver, addendum distance encoder possible
  • Control of working and holding brakes
  • Integrated input and output functions
  • Plug-in interfaces for supply, motor and encoder
  • Cable length changes and wiring possible depending on the design in the field

What are the advantages of SCM solutions for rail guidance?

Drive systems with decentralised controllers of the SCM type offer great advantages, especially for rail-guided applications, e.g. for shuttles:

  • Simple and cost-optimised aisle design
  • The position of the shuttle can be precisely determined regardless of the possible slip of the drive wheels
  • compact shuttle design possible
  • fast cycle times despite long lanes
  • many functions required for mobile applications integrated in one device (24 V power supply, reading of the distance encoder, many input and output functions, monitoring of energy storage, etc.)
  • Various feed-in concepts possible
  • Simple connection to line/process control via standardised fieldbuses
  • High degree of standardisation, no proprietary solution
  • Component certifications by SEW-EURODRIVE
  • Different concepts for drive solutions from a manufacturer's standardised modular system
  • customised solutions for high dynamics and small installation spaces
