13/03/2025 • SEW-EURODRIVE has expanded its planetary gear portfolio with the introduction of the new P2.e series. The gears are built for heavy-duty applications across industries including bulk material handling. The new P2.e units are more compact than their other planetary gear counterparts.

As a global industry-leading manufacturer of gear units and drive technology, we are pleased to expand our offering to those operating across various heavy material handling industries, with the introduction of the new P2.e series within our planetary gear range.

What is the P2.e series?

The P2.e series is a range of planetary gear units which are built for high performance within heavy-duty applications across multiple industries, including bulk material handling, water treatment, cement manufacturing, and food processing.

What are the benefits of the P2.e gear units?

The P2.e gear units have a number of benefits, when compared to their other planetary gear counterparts.

  • More compact: The new P2.e units make optimum use of tight spaces in machines and systems. When compared to earlier P series planetary gear motors, the P2.e series units are 24% lighter in weight, 10% shorter in size, and 6% lower in diameter.
  • Enhanced thermal rating: The P2.e series has the option of a fan built into the motor interface, which draws in air radially, accelerates it, and generates a cooling stream of air with a high flow rate. This higher thermal rating means more power can be transmitted continually through the drive without overheating, maintaining its efficiency over time.
  • Minimal maintenance: Fatigue-proof gearing and direct bearing allows for larger bearings to be fitted, significantly increasing the service life of the P2.e gear units.
  • Two-stage model: Whilst most planetary gearboxes have a three-stage design, the P2.e can be supplied in a two-stage model, which has a lower initial cost than a three-stage unit.

What are the applications of the P2.e gear units?

The P2.e series can be used across multiple applications, including batch mixers, screw pressers, shredders, and circular scrapers. The four different output shaft options offer our customers freedom within their machine design, helping to meet various industry-specific requirements.

Andy Turner, sales and operations manager for SEW-EURODRIVE UK, said: “Our P2.e series offers our customers more flexibility, with its compact design proving useful in systems where space is limited.

“The higher thermal rating and fatigue-proof gearing means the units have a longer expected service life, maintaining efficiency over an increased period, and therefore reducing the need for maintenance or replacement.

“This means our customers save on costs across the working life of the gears, whilst we help the environment by extending the product lifecycle.”
