System optimisation with our CDM® database
Innovative and transparent
Customer
Coca-Cola European Partners in Wakefield was established in northern England in 1989, currently has 450 employees and is the biggest soft drink factory in Europe in terms of production volume. More than half a billion liters of soft drink are manufactured and sold every year in Wakefield: 6000 cans per minute, or 100 cans per second, can be produced. This is a process that requires high-quality machinery and sophisticated drive technology.
During its 25-year history, the plant has had many ecological successes and improvements to its CO 2 footprint: Since 2006, energy consumption has been reduced by 21.5% and water consumption has been reduced by 50%. Coca-Cola European Partners has achieved this using an ingenious monitoring and targeting system that can be used to precisely determine where energy is being consumed, so that energy management programs can focus on the right areas.
Project description
Beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola European Partners, referred to in the following as "CCEP", introduced our CDM® – Complete Drive Management in 2012, since this system was a perfect match for the strategic requirements of the Wakefield site. The CDM® Complete Drive Management is an integrated maintenance management system that provides you with a complete overview of all the drive technology that is installed and in stock. In the event of a maintenance request, CCEP can directly contact our service department via the CDM® database. The matter is then dealt with quickly, regardless of whether it is a new drive technology component, an inspection, a repair or an on-site visit from a service engineer. The quick reaction of the service employees and the transparency provided by the CDM® mean that CCEP needs to keep less drive technology in stock. The system also makes it possible for any failures to be detected in advance by means of annual inspections, and it provides the option to create a maintenance history for all drive units that are available on site.
When drive technology components need to be exchanged, we and CCEP can collaborate closely and use the CDM® to examine all of the possible alternatives and shorten the lead time for the repair or replacement of original parts, which is an important advantage with this high-availability mass production system. This is taken into consideration in the CDM® database by continuously switching to the latest energy-efficient drive technology components, and displaying the energy efficiency class. The reconciliation of commonalities across the entire inventory reduces the variance in the systems and the inventory overhead. Old components are exchanged with energy-efficient drive components as part of natural substitution. Lee Baker, the maintenance manager at CCEP, has introduced a proprietary CCEP "Electrical and automation standard" with MOVIGEAR® for all new installations. MOVIGEAR® is a highly efficient mechatronic drive system in efficiency class IE4, which supports the goal of sustainable, energy-efficient solutions. This decision was made based on the positive experiences with the CDM® Complete Drive Management, and the project was therefore completed successfully.
