Couplings at the input end

Various couplings are used between the motor and the gear unit. The choice often falls on claw couplings or fluid couplings, depending on the application and desired properties.

  • Compensation of a small axial, radial and angular offset between the two coupling hubs
  • Elastomers in the coupling connection with their elastic properties ensure damping of shocks and vibrations on the motor side and thus a reduction in the transmission load from the motor
  • Various designs, e.g. also with brake drum or brake disk
  • Delay chamber to reduce the motor starting torque for a smooth and safe startup of conveyor systems, bucket elevators or other heavy starting systems
  • Simple mounting and disassembly (fluid coupling can be removed radially)
  • Optional monitoring device to detect overheating and stop the system in good time if necessary
  • various designs, e.g. also with brake drum or brake disk: this enables the use of a brake, low braking torque (as on the input end)

Couplings on the output end

Various coupling types can be used to connect the drive package to the customer's application shaft, depending on customer requirements. These include, in particular, pin, claw, tooth and flange couplings.

  • Compensation of a small axial, radial and angular offset between the two coupling hubs
  • Elastomers in the coupling connection with their elastic properties ensure damping of shocks and vibrations on the motor side and thus a reduction in the transmission load from the motor
  • Compensation of axial, radial and angular misalignment between the two coupling hubs
  • Elastomers in the coupling connection with their elastic properties ensure damping of shocks and vibrations on the motor side, thus reducing the load on the transmission caused by the motor
  • Torsional stiffness of the coupling
  • Compensation of axial, radial and angular misalignment between the two coupling hubs
  • as a design with keyway connection or cylindrical interference fit
  • Rigid transmission of forces

Drive packages on steel construction

Swing bases, base frames or customised drive frames offer the option of mounting the drive components on a steel structure in a space-saving and fully assembled manner.

  • Steel construction for the joint assembly of gear unit, (hydraulic) coupling and motor (and brake if required) including protective equipment such as a bonnet.
  • Rigid connection to the customer shaft and flexible connection via the torque arm
  • The torque arm holds the drive package in a horizontal position and prevents rotation of the drive package. All other forces are absorbed via the output shaft.
  • Steel construction for the joint assembly of gear unit, coupling and motor (and brake if necessary) including protective device, e.g. bonnet.
  • Rigid connection to the ground
  • Connection to the customer shaft via a flexible coupling to avoid tension due to static overdetermination
  • The base frame is designed by SEW-EURODRIVE based on the respective customer specifications. It is designed to absorb the order-specific external forces and torques from the machine and transfer them to the substructure.
  • Production of customised drive frames according to customer specifications

Brakes

If brakes are to be used on the input end, various designs are possible. In most cases, the choice falls on drum brakes or disk brakes.

  • Preferably used as a holding brake for the reliable stopping of a conveyor belt, for example: in this example application, the belt is prevented from reversing in idle state.
  • Monitoring devices for functional tests of the operating state and to prevent incorrect operation
  • Braking torque can be adjusted over a wide range
  • Options: automatic wear adjustment, brake open/closed limit switch, manual release lever with safety monitoring
  • Preferably used as a working brake for reliable braking, e.g. of a conveyor belt over various rotational speeds until idle state is reached
  • Monitoring devices for functional tests of the operating state and to prevent incorrect operation
  • Automatic adjustment device for independent equalisation of the brake linings (in the event of wear) for a constant braking torque and to maintain the braking function
  • Braking torque can be adjusted over a wide range, thus preventing overload from the brake
  • Precisely timed stopping, e.g. of a conveyor belt with successive belts, thus preventing overfilling of the following belt
  • Options: automatic wear adjustment, brake open/closed limit switch, manual release lever with safety monitoring

External oil supply and oil cooling systems

  • Oil cooling systems available as oil-air coolers and oil-water coolers
  • Oil supply system in which lubrication via a motor pump ensures the oil supply; the motor pump is attached externally to the gear unit and is independent of the speed of the gear unit
  • Different variants as a combination of oil supply and oil cooling system for supplying and simultaneously cooling (or switching on and off) the gear unit
  • Almost unlimited increase in thermal ratings
  • Targeted reduction of the maximum oil bath temperature increases the service life of the oil
  • Robust gear motor pump
  • up to starting viscosity of up to 5000 cSt
  • high availability and flexibility thanks to the use of motors from SEW-EURODRIVE
  • almost unlimited increase in thermal ratings

Centralised wiring of sensors to terminal box

  • All sensors for gearbox monitoring and the sensors of the oil supply system are wired centrally to a predefined terminal box
  • No local wiring work; simple plug-and-play solution
  • sensors can be preselected and thus selected as required; the size of the terminal box is determined by the number of sensors installed
  • Flexible positioning of the terminal box due to spatial characteristics of the application or general customer requirements
  • Degree of protection IP66 or NEMA 4 in two housing variants for temperatures down to -20 degrees Celsius and -40 degrees Celsius
  • Three different sizes in painted steel or stainless steel for connecting up to eight sensor technologies; the following dimensions are available:
    • 200 x 200 x 100 mm for up to three sensors,
    • 300 x 200 x 100 mm for four to six sensors,
    • 400 x 200 x 100 mm for seven to eight sensors
  • Effective cable protection with hot-dip galvanised or stainless steel piping
