Your advantages

Low vibrations
thanks to the exact pitch accuracy of the segmented girth gears in accordance with ISO 8 (AGMA 8).

Simple replacement
as the division into individual segments means that the entire ring does not have to be dismantled.

Increased service life
because the ADI spider is practically wear-free thanks to the correct dimensioning and lubrication.

Segmented spiders: More than the sum of the individual segments

Conventional spiders usually consist of two to four segments and are machined together. This requires immensely large and expensive machines for production, handling and heat treatment. The component size also leads to disadvantages in terms of casting quality and heat treatment.

SEW-EURODRIVE spiders, on the other hand, are always divided into several identical segments. This means that the parts are short and easy to handle. The combination of state-of-the-art material technology and efficient manufacturing methods avoids the disadvantages of the classic solution and generates further advantages.

For example, SEW-EURODRIVE only uses bainitic cast iron with spheroidal graphite (ADI / Austempered Ductile Iron) for the spiders. Its tensile strength cannot be matched by conventional materials.

ADI is described in the following international standards:

  • ISO 17804 "Ausferritic ductile cast iron"
  • AGMA 939-A07 "Austempered Ductile Irons For Gears"

Complete drive solutions from SEW-EURODRIVE

SEW-EURODRIVE not only supplies the spider, but also offers you the complete drive package. On request, you can receive the main gear unit with drive pinion, motor, auxiliary drives, base frame, etc. The pinion can be mounted directly on the gearbox output shaft or stored separately (pedestal bearing). Several drives can also be used to rotate a furnace so that the power rating is distributed. This means that high torques can also be achieved with smaller, more efficient drive units.

In general, drive solutions with spiders require a great deal of consultation, which is why we support you as a system manufacturer and user in all applications. The specialists at SEW-EURODRIVE accompany the process from consultation to professional mounting and startup. In this way, we guarantee the best technical and economical solution.
