Short design
thanks to the special design, reducing weight and motor length.
High variability
enables the customised combination of a brake and its options to the motoring operation.
Diagnostic unit for function and wear monitoring (optional)
which works contactless and provides continuous information on the function and wear of each partial brake.
Functional safety (optional)
through certification in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1.
Our mechanical brake is a DC-excited electromagnetic disk brake that opens electrically and closes by spring force. The brake is applied if the voltage supply is interrupted. It therefore fulfils basic safety requirements.
The brake can also be released mechanically if equipped with a manual brake release. Mechanical release is made possible by a hand lever, which springs back automatically, or a lockable set screw. The brake is controlled via a brake control, which is located in the terminal box of the motor or in the control cabinet.
All brakes in the BE... series have special noise damping and are particularly quiet.
Thanks to the variability of our modular brake system, you can choose from up to 3 different brake sizes for mounting on the desired motor. The braking torque can also be varied using different spring assemblies. The resulting variety of braking torques also offers a solution for your requirements.
You can also select safety-rated brakes in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 from our modular brake system, especially for requirements in the area of functional safety. These complete a safe brake system that enables the realisation of the "safe braking" and "safe stopping" safety functions according to your desired performance level (PL) - in horizontal operation up to PL d and in vertical operation up to PL c in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1.

Depending on the braking torque or braking work required, our DR../DRN/DR2.. series motor can be combined with the optimum BE.. brake. The brake attachment to the motors from size 90 offers a special feature. The brake itself is mounted on a friction plate, which is only attached to the endshield. This means that you can easily remove or replace the unit without having to open the motoring operation and also swap it for a larger or smaller brake.
Our brakes can also be released mechanically when equipped with manual brake release. There are two options for manual brake release:
Depending on the requirements and operating conditions, you can select different brake controls for controlling the DC-excited disk brakes. All brake controls are protected against overvoltage with varistors as standard.
The supply voltage for brakes with AC connection is either supplied separately or taken from the motor's mains supply in the terminal box. The supply from the motor line voltage is only permitted for motors with a fixed rotational speed. For pole-changing motors and for operation with a frequency inverter, the supply voltage for the brake must be supplied separately.
When supplied from the motor line voltage, the residual voltage of the motor delays the reaction of the brake. The brake application time t21 for cut-off in the AC circuit only applies to a separate supply.
Other options for controlling the brake:
- Direct connection of DC voltage (DC supply)
- Connection to field installations, e.g. MOVIMOT®
- Safe connection in accordance with EN 13849
- Control cabinet units of the BM.. series

The type and number of brake springs used determine the level of braking torque. Unless expressly ordered otherwise, the brake, if ordered as a single brake, is supplied as standard with the maximum possible braking torque MBmax is installed as standard. For stand-alone motors and gearmotors, the standard braking torque depends on the nominal motor torque and can differ from the maximum possible braking torque MBmax may deviate. Thanks to addendum brake spring combinations, lower braking torques MBred can be selected for the same brake size.

A complete combinatorics can be found in the respective Engine catalogues and manuals from SEW-EURODRIVE.
Drives from SEW-EURODRIVE can optionally be equipped with safety-rated components, e.g. brakes and/or encoders.
An integrated safety-rated brake is clearly identified by the FS logo, e.g. FS02, on the motor nameplate. This enables the realisation of safety functions and their performance level evaluation in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1.
