14/11/2024 • SEW-EURODRIVE introduces sustainable, coating-free drives in ECO
· SEW-EURODRIVE has introduced coating-free ECO2 drives, in response to increased demand for environmentally friendly products
· The drives offer both ecological and economic advantages, lowering costs and improving environmental impact
· The introduction of new large gear units and motor models means SEW-EURODRIVE's existing uncoated drive range can now be significantly expanded
With more and more companies choosing to go greener in efforts to hit net-zero targets, here at SEW-EURODRIVE, we’ve developed a new solution to meet our clients’ environmental demands – coating-free drives.
The drives were developed in direct response to the growing need for environmentally-friendly products, with a focus on considering environmental balance and using raw materials.
Whilst we have offered uncoated versions of very small drives for years, the introduction of new motor models, along with the expansion to a large gear unit portfolio, means the range can now be significantly increased.
Made from uncoated aluminium, which forms a natural thin protective layer when combined with oxygen, our new coating free drives set new standards in terms of sustainability and environmental protection. They’re offered in the ECO2 design, meaning they can be used in indoor spaces with a maximum humidity of 60%, and can be used at temperatures between -20°C and +60°C.
In a dry, neutral environment, aluminium and plastic are well protected from corrosion. This means that drives in the ECO2 design meet the requirements of ISO 12944 corrosivity category C1 and can be used in heated buildings with a clean atmosphere.
The name ECO2 highlights their dual ecological and economic advantages, delivering both environmental and cost-saving benefits.
ECO2 drives can be used across multiple applications, including cleaning systems, conveyor belts, and precise dispensing.
The coating-free drives contribute to environmental protection by eliminating energy-intensive painting processes, saving on raw materials like paints and solvents.
ECO2 drives save energy, by avoiding drying stages, and there’s no need for recoating after repairs.
These drives make a significant contribution in improving environmental balance, with lower CO2 emissions, while the uncoated components enable easier reuse and recycling at the end of their life cycle, with fewer harmful substances to process.
Andrew Turnerfrom SEW-EURODRIVE said, “The expansion of our portfolio of coating-free drives underlines SEW-EURODRIVE's leading position in industry, reaffirming our commitment to a more sustainable future. Customers can rely on our pioneering and innovative solutions, that offer both economic and environmental benefits.”
