Next up in the series is David Emery, our UK Sales Manager for Standard Product.

What is your job at SEW-EURODRIVE UK, and what are your main responsibilities?

I am UK Sales Manager for Standard Product, so standard mechanical geared motor product. I am responsible for all sales activity relating to that product.

How many years of experience do you have working in the drives industry?

I’ve been at SEW for twenty years, with five years of experience in the sector prior to that.

What did you do prior to working at SEW-EURODRIVE UK?

I worked for a different drive company as an area sales engineer, and prior to that, I’ve had roles in the pneumatics and control valve industries.

What skills did you gain in your previous role, and how have they benefitted your career?

In my previous roles, the experience was more based around the different industries – as much as it was a different product, it still involved visiting similar industries and customers to the ones we work with at SEW-EURODRIVE UK, looking at similar applications. It’s all directly relatable to what I do now.

What is your proudest career or personal achievement?

The one I reflect upon most was from a long time ago when I first moved into sales. It was my first big project, and I managed it the whole way through, it was a great learning experience for me.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve been given?

The best piece of advice I was ever given was by a manager when I worked in the pneumatics industry. He said: “You’ve got two ears and one mouth, and as a salesperson, you’ve got to use them in that proportion”.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Sausage and mashed potato with gravy.

What gets you up in the morning (other than an alarm clock)?

From a work perspective, it’s a desire to do well.

What are your hobbies?

I’m a keen mountain biker, so I do a lot of mountain biking. I also enjoy going go-karting with my friends - I even reached the British Indoor Karting Championships national finals!
