New X Series range of Industrial Gears

The new in-house development of SEW-EURODRIVE is nearly unrivaled with its fine size graduation that covers the medium torque range from 58 to 175 kNm (43000 to 129000 ft-lb). The large number of pre-defined accessories offers a high degree of flexibility for adapting to a broad range of application situations – with a minimum of components at maximum utility.

Hillhead Trade Show 2007

SEW-EURODRIVE will premiere its new series of industrial gear units, the X series, at the Hillhead Show 2007. The opening act is dominated by the helical and bevel-helical gear units in the torque range from 58,000 – 175,000 Nm with unit weights of one to four tons.

The global demand for large drives required for transportation of packaged and bulk goods as well as large processing machines has grown steadily in recent years. Operators and machine suppliers are particularly concerned about aspects such as reliability, availability, price/performance ratio, user-friendly documentation and the option to receive complete solutions from only one source.SEW-EURODRIVE is part of a group of inventors and consistent users of the modular system for geared motors. This expertise combined with our experience in the constantly growing industrial gear unit market, is the driving force behind the new, powerful series of industrial gear units from SEW-EURODRIVE that uses a minimum of components with the highest degree of flexibility to meet market demands.

Comprehensive program and high quality

The gear units are available with two, three or four stages and cover a very comprehensive gear ratio range of i = 6.3 and i = 400. Even higher ratios of more than i = 1000 can be achieved in combination with a primary gearmotor. The high-endurance helical and bevel gearing is case-hardened and ground and meets the highest quality standards. It ensures a high load-bearing capacity and low noise in connection with longitudinal and width compensation. The anti-friction bearings with high load-bearing capacity are supplied by renowned manufacturers and designed for a long service life. The gear units are available with a reinforced output shaft bearing as optional component. Positive shaft-hub connections or the use of integrated pinion shafts ensure unlimited use of the gear units for hoist applications. In addition to the horizontal position, you can mount these gear units vertically (e.g. for agitators) or in a space-saving upright position (e. g. for travel drives) to the driven machine. The gear units are available for all mounting positions in foot, flange or shaft-mounted design. The sturdy gear unit housings made of noise-absorbing gray cast iron let you install or mount a variety of options, such as motor adapter, V-belt drive, backstop, mounting flange, oil heater and auxiliary drive. The available cooling options are a fan on the input shaft, water coolers with low maintenance requirements as well as external oil supply systems with oil-water or oil-air heat exchangers. In addition to the standard sealing system, consisting of one or two oil seals with or without bushing, we offer a dust-proof system as well as a radial labyrinth sealing system to meet different degrees of pollution. Preconfigured and complete drive packages for conveyor belt drives and bucket conveyors, consisting of bevel-helical gear units, auxiliary drive, motor swing base, turbo coupling and AC motor complete the application-specific gear unit program.

Smart application solutions

We have designed an innovative "advanced fan" for the input shaft of conveyor belt drives; it ensures cooling of the gear unit even when the flow of cooling air is restricted as it can be caused by installing fluid couplings, brake discs or v-belt pulleys.Customers often have a "left" or "right" gear unit in stock or use input and output shafts at both ends. The gear unit housing has a symmetrical axis and the gear unit can be reversed, eliminating the need for these additional steps.Gear units with shaft end pump can be designed as a complete unit (incl. filter and monitoring) without need for external pipes. This results in reduced chances for leakage, less interference edges for the customer machine as well as robustness during transport and maintenance.

Individuality based on modular design

You will be able to select a gear unit from the X series using the proven project planning programs from SEW-EURODRIVE, incl. 2D and 3D CAD dimension drawings. The extensive documentation will be completed by individual operating instructions, customized for your specific order.

It is only the beginning....

The X series has been thoroughly tested and optimized prior to its market launch in one of our in-house load testing stations. The gear units are currently available in eight sizes manufactured and assembled exclusively by SEW-EURODRIVE. We are planning to add more sizes in the years to come to cover a rated torque range of a few thousand to several hundred thousand Newton meters with a very finely graduated sizing scale. A backstop with high locking torque can now lock the rotation of the motor in one direction instead of a brake. The C1 profile of the overhead trolley systems can now be operated with 4-pole, 1.1 kW drives. Sensors for temperature detection of the motor winding make for a high efficiency of the drive in inverter operation.
